The 2019 League of Legends World Championship begins Oct. 2 with the Play-In stage, which hosts the third seeds of the Major regions (minus China), and all the Minor regions’ champions. The stage will last until Oct. 8, by which point the best teams will move forward.
- Oct. 2-5 — Group stage
- Oct. 7-8 — Knockout stage
What’s on the line?
The Worlds 2019 Play-In stage consists of 12 teams split into four groups of three. The best two of each group will move on to the Play-Ins’ Knockout stage, while the worst team in each group will be eliminated from the event.
The top 8 will then fight it off in pairs to determine which four will earn berths into the Main Event. Depending on their home region, the teams can only go to groups where they will be the only representative of that region (e.g. Clutch Gaming cannot go into a group that already hosts Team Liquid or Cloud 9).
